Graduates of this program, who serve in two six-month internships during their junior and senior years at two of the 44 companies which participate, are highly marketable throughout the Pacific Northwest and have a near 100 percent employment rate. University officials hope for the concept to be expanded into other fields of study.

“Both OSU and the MECOP companies appreciate the quality of students from around the region who are able to get into this highly competitive program,” said program coordinator Gary Petersen at OSU. “Through applied education, MECOP produces the highest quality engineering graduates engineers for hire in the Northwest.”

MECOP began in 1978 and now involves students in 10 disciplines—chemical engineering, civil engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, engineering physics, environmental engineering, industrial and manufacturing engineering, mechanical engineering, and management information systems.The students selected for the program include:
